Ashikaga Institute of Technology School of Engineering

@Department of Mechanical Engineering

The department focuses on providing fundamental knowledge for all of the technical fields.

Mechanical engineering covers a broad professional area and forms the basis for many of the technical fields in society. The curriculum includes offering basic engineering courses in the freshman and sophomore years and engineering application courses during the junior and senior years. Because of the broad and fundamental nature of mechanical engineering, laboratory courses and many electives are found throughout the curriculum. The laboratory and application courses provide an opportunity for developing student creativity through the use of state-of-the-art experimental equipment. The entire curriculum serves as preparation for working on realistic engineering problems, and gives students the experience and confidence to move quickly into productive and satisfying careers.

Educational objectives

A) Develop an ability to think objectively about the well-being of the local community and understand that values vary between different cultures.

B) Understand the impact of engineering solutions within a global and societal context.

C) Acquire knowledge of the natural sciences and develop an ability to apply it practically.

D) Acquire a knowledge of material and structure; movement and vibration; energy and flow; information and measurement/control; design and production/administration; machine and system.

E) Become aware of community needs through participation in local activities and information gathering and be able to apply knowledge of mechanical engineering and social sciences to meet those needs.

F) Develop an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems and promote continuous improvement through independent studies and seminars.

G) Gain an ability to analyze the results of experiments and complete reports within a specified time.

H) Improve practical skills related to mechanical engineering including information-processing and engineering design.
